Heritage,Ancient,Historic,Sacred 2000 Year Old Hindu Temple's Massive Tower Gone,in Hosur,Tamil Nadu.

Any temple which is over 1,000 years old has a brief account of it's antiquity followed by a story which you can believe it or not.The story of this temple has many and people accept it as true and do not try to question as to what is the proof of the story being true.The priest who is the authorized person to stay in the sanctum sanatorium of the temple told me the story as follows.

Over 2500 years ago the place was as beautiful as the moon and Lord Shiva used to come here to stay for a few days with his wife Parvathi.There also lived in this place a little farther many Rishi's and it so happened that one day a Rushi saw them and was so pleased to see the lord tht he went to tell and bring his colleague also to see the Lord with his wife.When he came along with his colleague Parvathi also saw them and she cursed them for intrusion of her privacy with Lord and she disappeared informing Lord Shiva who immediately turned to his form as LINGA a stone of a shape as shown in the picture below.

The huge walls surrounded on all sides is perhaps a mystery as there will be a question as to where was the need for such fortification by large massive walls as early as 1000 years.There is a pond just adjoining the temple's walls from where water was carried to the temple for pooja but at present it is not used as there is a well inside the temple which is untouched by any one except the authorized person who can draw the water from the well.There are also writings on stones inside and out side the temple but a visitor to the temple has no means to know what they say and our big and mighty Archeological Survey of India has not made any contribution noticeable to any visitor any where on the path to the hill from the hill below to the hill at the top.These epigraphical writings read perhaps the antiquity and sacredness of this temple.The visitor will not know if ASI has deciphered by their Epigraph readers.The Antiquity and the sacredness of the temple is said to go back to the most early 3^rdcentury AD to the middle of 10^th AD.The Chola Rulers had control of Hosur and it is said that these rulers had TALKAD on the banks of river caveri as their Capitol.They were very much interested in Shiva temples and improved this temple maintenance.This temple architecture may be a eye opener to the rulers of the State of Mysore as a similar type of temple is built in a place very near to Mysore at Nanjangud to the same god and goddess During that period this town Hosur was included in the district of Bangalore in Mysore State.The literature that have read says that from 3^rd century to the mid 10^th century AD the temple was looked after by Ganga Kings.If it existed in this period than it must have been built by some body earlier to 3^rd century making this temple older than 1,800 years or 2,000 years also.The granth and epigraphical inscriptions if deciphered may prove this point.Only some student of Archeology doing research for PhD can perhaps do this work if the student gets as much grant as required for the work.

I was surprised to see the massive Main Tower which is shown below completely dismantled and huge stones missing from the heap of small pieces of stones dumped as scrap.Who gave this temple permission to destroy a civil engineering wonder we had 1800 years ago.

Was any procedure adopted like marking the stone position on a drawing,writing its specifications and the other prescribed procedure laid down by our govt run branch of some ministry under a bureaucrat working as Director of the dept of Archeology.

Was any one from the dept of Archeology present.

Where are the huge stones.

The present govt has perhaps approved the new construction of a giant tower spending crores of public money instead of repairing the historic 1,800 year Engineering Marvel.

In order to take a inventory of valuable things and the antiquity of the temple there must be records and perhaps they are there.If they are maintained it should contain the following in the records.

1 - Who built the temple.

2 - What are the various items in the inventory.

3 - Where is the stone flag.

4 - How many ponds were there on this hill.

5 - Have copies of grantha in Kannada and Telugu kept.

6 - Is there a text after deciphering the epigraphy found in this temple.

7 - Is there documents to prove the antiquity of the temple.

8 - Was there a village on top of this hill.

9 - The closed room not opened since past several centuries still closed and if so why is it not opened.If opened who opened it and what were the items found in that room.

10 - Who ordered the dismantling of " Maha Dwara " and why.

11 - How many stones were in this " Maha Dwara ".

12 - Are all stones marked and will preserved nicely as now its kept heaped in a unseen place.

13 - A new Temple Maha Dwara is under construction will it contain all the stones of the dismantled structure of " Maha Dwara ".

14 - Why no notice in English is made public regarding this New Maha Dwara ".

15 - Why few items like the Nandi Bull and other items of temple kept near a wall as its unsafe there.

16 - Where is the Floating Pond.

17 - Where is the Weighing Scale for TULA BHARAM.

18 - Has the temple a copy of STALA PURANAM which is in Sanskrit made available to public in English and Local languages.
